The girls were born on November 16th, 2007, 16 weeks early. Mallory Kate – 1 lb 8 oz, Evan Reese – 1 lb 1 oz, and Kelby Grace – 1 lb 5 oz. Upon their delivery, Mallory and Kelby were transferred to St. David’s South and were doing fairly well considering the circumstances. Our little Evan Reese was a fighter, but she had a lot of problems and she was with us for about 5 hours. We love you Evan and we miss you everyday, but we know we’ll see you again one day. Mallory and Kelby both went through a lot in their 105 day stay in the hospital, from heart surgeries, to brain bleeds, to infections. Many prayers were answered and we thank God everyday for everything He has done for them. Today they are perfectly healthy and growing bigger and stronger everyday. We started this blog to keep everybody updated on their progress. You can scroll down to the bottom of the page for a slideshow from the NICU days.

Four Steps Forward, Three Steps Back

Well we were getting very excited about the girls coming home possibly in the next week. Looks like it will be a little longer. Mallory is back eating every three hours. Every third feeding is by feeding tube. She was spitting up quite a bit and not finishing her feeds, so they wanted to back up and see what was causing that. Kelby was taken off of Theophylline (stimulates the airways) and her oxygen, but they put her back on both of those today. Her lungs are not quite strong enough just yet. Kelby is still taking all of her feedings by bottle every three hours. There is talk of changing their formula to Soy formula to see if that will sit better with their stomachs. Guess we just got reminded of the roller coaster of the NICU.

Kelby weighs 6lbs 4oz and Mallory weighs 6lbs 12oz

Saturday the girls will be 100 days old! We will try and get some new pictures posted soon.

So frustrating, I know. But, how good that all the issues can be worked out with your crack team of medical professionals and not when the girls are already home. Hang in there. Em and Roo pray for K & M every night at bedtime.
