The girls were born on November 16th, 2007, 16 weeks early. Mallory Kate – 1 lb 8 oz, Evan Reese – 1 lb 1 oz, and Kelby Grace – 1 lb 5 oz. Upon their delivery, Mallory and Kelby were transferred to St. David’s South and were doing fairly well considering the circumstances. Our little Evan Reese was a fighter, but she had a lot of problems and she was with us for about 5 hours. We love you Evan and we miss you everyday, but we know we’ll see you again one day. Mallory and Kelby both went through a lot in their 105 day stay in the hospital, from heart surgeries, to brain bleeds, to infections. Many prayers were answered and we thank God everyday for everything He has done for them. Today they are perfectly healthy and growing bigger and stronger everyday. We started this blog to keep everybody updated on their progress. You can scroll down to the bottom of the page for a slideshow from the NICU days.

Baby Update

Well, another day in NICU. The girls are still doing good. All of the doctors and nurses have told us that this will be a roller coaster ride, and it has definitely been that. Mallory was put back on the conventional ventilator yesterday and has been doing well since. They did a culture on her lungs when they put her back on the ventilator and that test showed that there was some bacteria growing in her lungs. They have put her on antibiotics and that should take care of it. The doctor said that that is probably what caused the problems that led to them putting her back on the ventilator, so once they get that cleared up, she should be able to go back on CPAP. Her latest blood test didn't show any signs of the infection, so that is good. Kelby is still going strong on CPAP, she has had some apnea (she forgets to breathe every now and then) but we have been assured that this is normal with babies born this premature. Kelby was scheduled to have another head ultrasound this morning. We haven't heard yet what the results of that were. We are praying that this one doesn't show any more bleeding and that there won't be any lasting effects. Other than that, both girls are still doing extremely well. Also, please pray for us this weekend as we fly to Lubbock for Evan's graveside service. We pray that God gives us peace in knowing that Evan is resting peacefully in a much better place and that we will all be reunited with her one day.

So glad to see an update today. Everything sounds pretty normal, from my NICU memories and experiences. Praying that M is off the vent soon and bacteria free and K is free and clear on her brain u/s. Peace be with you this weekend. As always, let us know if we can do anything. Anything at all, anytime.

Thinking of you guys as you travel and celebrate Evan's life. Thank you for the updates. As the poster above said, call us if we can do ANYTHING.

It was great to see you on Saturday... I wish we could have spent more time visiting. My kids are kinda crazy! I know each day the babies will get bigger and bigger... I can't wait to see them when you bring them to Lubbock!
